Anesthetist

Reports to: Medical Director

Purpose of the Role

To provide safe and effective anesthesia and sedation services for patients undergoing

diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and

optimal clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients pre-procedure plan appropriate anesthesia/sedation plans.

• Administer anesthesia or conscious sedation safely and effectively.

• Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical status during procedures and recovery.

• Respond promptly to anesthesia-related complications or emergencies.

• Maintain accurate anesthesia records and documentation.

• Collaborate with endoscopists and other staff to ensure coordinated patient care.

• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, safety, and clinical protocols.

• Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.

• Engage in continuous professional education and training in endoscopy-related

anesthesia practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Anesthesia and Critical Care with valid practicing license.

• Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification clinical experience (experience in

endoscopy, theatre, or ambulatory care settings is an advantage).

• Fluency in local Ugandan language(s) is an added advantage

• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent preferred.
